Southampton’s Sunnyfields Farm Captures Halloween Spirit with Record-Breaking Pumpkin Mosaic
In a remarkable celebration of Halloween, Southampton’s Sunnyfields Farm has carved its name into the Guinness World Records. The farm’s mesmerizing mosaic, influenced by the ethereal aesthetic of Tim Burton’s films, utilized a whopping 10,000 pumpkins and squashes.
This artistry resulted in the world record for the grandest Cucurbita mosaic, immortalizing Jack Skellington’s signature pose from the iconic Burton film, “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
Sunnyfields Farm, a cherished local gem, is run by the Nelson family. Ian and Louise Nelson, along with their son Tom, have always had a penchant for extravagance and grandeur, especially during the festive season. It’s no surprise that they’ve finally caught the limelight with this endeavor.
Tom Nelson, expressing his elation to the PA news agency, shared, “Every year, our farm hosts ‘The Great Pumpkin Time Weigh-Off’ on the second Saturday of October. It’s a tradition where someone often clinches a world record for the heaviest fruit or pumpkin. Witnessing those triumphs, we never imagined we’d one day be in the spotlight.”
Although aiming for a record wasn’t the initial intent, when the Nelsons realized the potential scale of their annual display, they decided to give it a shot. To secure the title, the mosaic needed to surpass 100 square meters in size. Impressively, the final masterpiece sprawled across almost 200 square meters.
What’s noteworthy is that every pumpkin and squash used in this intricate design belongs to the Cucurbita family, which is where the record’s title originates. Crafting such an elaborate visual treat was no easy task.
It demanded rigorous planning and approximately five hours of strenuous effort. Tom, accompanied by a dedicated team of nine individuals, meticulously placed each pumpkin and squash to bring this magnificent vision to life.
This sensational Halloween display, a testament to artistry and dedication, now stands as a hallmark of Sunnyfields Farm, attracting visitors and Burton enthusiasts from all over. It’s not just a record; it’s a visual delight that encapsulates the magic and mystique of the Halloween season.
