In a horrifying incident that has left a town reeling, three young girls were fatally stabbed during a children’s workshop in Southport, leading to widespread unrest and violent far-right demonstrations. The victims, aged 6, 7, and 9, succumbed to their injuries after a knife-wielding attacker disrupted a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga class.

The assailant, a 17-year-old whose identity remains protected due to his age, has been charged with three counts of murder and 10 of attempted murder, according to Merseyside Police. The teenager is expected to face court proceedings in Liverpool, as the community struggles to comprehend the senseless violence that took place.

In response to the stabbing, far-right groups incited violence, notably clashing with police outside a mosque and near Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s residence, throwing beer cans and flares. These groups erroneously tried to connect the attack to immigration issues, despite police clarifications.

The violence escalated with a mob causing chaos in Southport, vandalizing property, and engaging in looting and arson. Over 50 police officers were injured during these riots, some seriously. Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy expressed her dismay, stating, “I am absolutely appalled and disgusted at the level of violence that was shown towards my officers.”

As the community grapples with grief and shock, locals including Norman Wallis, chief executive of the Southport Pleasureland amusement park, took to the streets to clean up the aftermath, emphasizing that the violent protestors do not represent the true spirit of Southport.
