Woman accused of firing shots at Rihanna’s $14M Los Angeles home previously arrested after violent dispute with ex-husband
A woman recently arrested for allegedly firing shots at the Los Angeles home of global music star Rihanna was previously involved in a domestic violence case that led to her arrest in 2023.
Ivanna Ortiz, 35, is accused of shooting at Rihanna’s $14 million residence on Sunday afternoon. The property is where the singer lives with her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, and their three young children. Authorities say no one was injured in the incident.
According to police reports from a previous case obtained by Page Six, Ortiz was arrested in June 2023 after an altercation with her ex-husband outside her apartment in Orlando, Florida.
The Orlando Police Department incident report states that the confrontation occurred when Ortiz’s former husband, referred to as John Doe, arrived at her apartment to drop off their daughter. The two had reportedly arranged the drop-off through text messages, but the exchange quickly escalated into an argument.
Police said Ortiz sent several threatening messages before he arrived. One text reportedly read, “You’ll be getting socked on the nose tonight.” Shortly afterward, another message followed: “What’s it going to be twin, your [sic] calling the shots tonight and I’m throwing punches.”
The responding officer reviewed the messages on Doe’s phone and noted that he did not threaten Ortiz during the conversation. Instead, Doe reportedly said he wanted the two of them to focus on raising their daughter peacefully.
When he reached the apartment, Doe began recording with his cellphone. According to the report, Ortiz opened the door and allegedly called him a “f—-t,” which sparked a heated verbal exchange.
Doe said he then told their daughter to leave with him. As he turned away, Ortiz allegedly lunged at him in an attempt to grab his phone. He claimed she missed and tried again, prompting him to push her away.
Police say Ortiz fell to the ground but got back up and allegedly started throwing punches. Doe again pushed her away and tried to restrain her while repeatedly asking her to stop.
A neighbor who heard the disturbance came outside, after which the pair separated. Doe then called 911. Officers observed a scratch on the right side of his face.
The couple’s daughter was reportedly extremely distressed during the incident, crying heavily and saying multiple times that she did not want anyone to get in trouble or go to jail.
Ortiz gave a different version of events, telling police that Doe provoked her and struck her with his phone before pushing her to the ground and pulling her hair. She admitted he used his hands to subdue her, but said she punched him to defend herself.
In the police report, the responding officer concluded, “I find Ivanna Otriz to be the primary aggressor of the above incident,” and the daughter was left in Doe’s custody.
In the latest case, authorities say Ortiz allegedly used an AR-15-style rifle to fire about 10 rounds at Rihanna’s home from a car parked across the street before fleeing the scene. She was later arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department and charged with attempted murder.
In the weeks leading up to the shooting, Ortiz posted several concerning messages about Rihanna and other celebrities on social media.
One post on X, written less than two weeks before the incident, read: “@badgirlriri Are you there? Cause I was waiting for your AIDS 5-head self to say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me where I’m not at.”
A source told People that Rihanna “doesn’t understand” why Ortiz targeted her family but is taking extra precautions following the incident.
