Max George opens up about writing ‘will’ before heart surgery

Max George, member of The Wanted, revealed he drafted a will on his phone while hospitalized for a serious heart condition. The 36-year-old musician, who recently revamped the band as a duo with Siva Kaneswaran, underwent pacemaker surgery in December and shared the details in an interview with The Sun on January 11.

“That first night I wrote a will, I thought I was going to die,” George admitted, reflecting on the terrifying experience. The ordeal began on December 11 when the Glad You Came singer woke up with blue hands and an intense cold sensation. Initially, George dismissed his symptoms as minor, thinking they would pass after a few days of rest following a tour.

“I was quite lethargic and struggling to get out of bed, but I didn’t think it was anything serious,” he explained. George described the alarming moment that prompted immediate medical attention. Fortunately, he had decided to stay at his mother’s house. “I couldn’t move my arms, and the worst feeling was I felt like my throat was closing up. Thank God I stayed at Mom’s house, she saved my life,” he shared.

Doctors diagnosed George with an issue in the lower part of his heart and informed him that he would need a pacemaker to regulate his heart’s rhythm. The diagnosis came as a shock to the singer. “I was in complete shock,” he said. “It was really scary, all sorts of thoughts are going on in your head, and certainly not a place I thought I’d be in at 36.”

Now adjusting to life with a pacemaker, George’s story highlights the unexpected health challenges he has faced. Despite the frightening experience, he continues to focus on his music and recovery, with fans offering overwhelming support.

His candid revelations serve as a reminder of the importance of addressing health concerns promptly and the unpredictable nature of life, even for someone as young and vibrant as George.
