Britain’s Loneliest Sheep is now Pregnant with twins two years after rescue

Once dubbed Britain’s loneliest sheep, Fiona is about to become a mom—and not just to one lamb, but two. After spending two years isolated on a remote beach in the Scottish Highlands, Fiona is now thriving at Dalscone Farm and expecting twins.

Fiona’s journey to internet fame began in 2021 when kayaker Jill Turner spotted her stuck at the base of a cliff near Balintore, Easter Ross. Shockingly, Turner saw her still stranded two years later. Moved by her situation, Turner launched a rescue campaign that went viral. Over 55,000 people signed the petition and donations poured in from as far as the US, Canada, and Australia, raising four times the initial £2,500 goal.

In what was described as an “epic” mission, a team of specialist climbers rescued Fiona using a winch truck, 200 meters of rope, and a makeshift sling. They found her in a cave 250 meters down the cliff, amazed at how large she’d become from grazing alone.

Fiona arrived at Dalscone Farm in November 2023, but life back among her kind wasn’t easy. “She has kind of forgotten how to be a sheep,” said Ben Best, the farm’s manager. Fiona had trouble bonding and adapting to social life. But she slowly came around with care, a strict diet plan that brought her weight down to 90 kg, and treatment for arthritis.

In a recent video on the farm’s Facebook page, Best shared the big news: “Fiona’s having twins. What have we done? We have actually got her in lamb. The pressure is on.”

Fiona was given hormones to help her conceive and was paired with a Suffolk ram. It worked, and now she’s set to give birth in early February. “She’s doing really well,” Best said. “She is the world’s most famous sheep.”
