Amy Dowden, a beloved professional dancer from Strictly Come Dancing, has shared a deeply emotional post on Instagram, expressing her heartbreak over the death of a friend from cancer. The 34-year-old, who has been battling breast cancer since 2023, posted a poignant tribute to her friend Hannah, who lost her fight against the same illness.
Amy, who has undergone a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and fertility preservation efforts, revealed last year that her body was free of disease. However, the latest blow came when her friend Hannah, whom she met during cancer treatment, passed away from the illness.
The two women had bonded during their hospital visits, where they often had the chance to chat and share their experiences. In her post, Amy shared, “Life is cruel and I truly hate cancer! A beautiful soul, Hannah, I met during treatment. Our appointments always aligned and we’d have a good natter and put the world to rights”, reports the Express.
Amy continued: “Spoke about Hannah actually on Loose Women which she immediately messaged me to say thank you and loved. Hannah like me had breast cancer. We spoke so much about our lives after cancer and I remember when I saw her during my trek (had to come back for injection) she told me she wanted to join me on one next year to give back”, reported the Manchester Evening News.
The emotional post detailed how Amy, six months ahead of Hannah in her treatment, became a source of support for her friend. “I was six months ahead of her so she would always be asking me questions and she was just the most genuine, dedicated mother and soul. I’ve just received a message from Hannah’s friend to tell me Hannah passed last Tuesday.”
Amy expressed her sorrow over the loss, especially knowing that Hannah left behind twin daughters who had already lost their father to cancer. “This has knocked me but also knowing she’s left two beautiful twin girls behind who already have lost their dad to this awful disease. You will live on through them Hannah.”
In the wake of Hannah’s passing, a GoFundMe page has been created in her memory to support her twin daughters. Amy shared her grief, saying: “The news has hit me quite hard. I’m gutted and angry. RIP beautiful Hannah. What a woman!”
The devastating loss comes after Amy returned to the hospital for further preventative treatments. She posted a photo from her hospital chair, captioning it: “And we are back for the first one of 2025 at the Sheldon Oncology Unit. Don’t enjoy these… but if they keep that cancer away it’s worth it! Plus always lovely to catch up with the unit.”
