Loose Women’s newest panellist, Mariella Frostrup, found herself in an awkward moment on live TV when she accidentally let the P-word slip during a passionate rant. The British-Norwegian journalist was discussing the commercialization of Valentine’s Day on Monday’s episode of the ITV talk show, alongside co-panellists Brenda Edwards, Myleene Klass, and host Christine Lampard.
Mariella, in full flow about her dislike for the holiday, expressed her frustration about how Valentine’s Day had shifted from a “sweet thing from the 17th century” to a heavily commercialized event, much like Christmas and other traditions. She stated: “I just feel like it’s taken something that was quite a sweet thing in the 17th century and commercialized it within an inch of its life, like Christmas, like almost everything that I can possibly think of”, reported by the Mirror.
As she vented her displeasure with how commercial forces have influenced the holiday, Mariella added: “It’s just sad, you know I feel like people feel like they are under attack from the relentlessness of the commercial world”, according to the Daily Record.
The moment took a turn when Mariella inadvertently dropped a swear word, saying: “I would be really p***ed off.” The outburst immediately stunned both her fellow panellists and the audience, with gasps and shrieks filling the air. Brenda Edwards looked gobsmacked, clutching her hand to her mouth, while Myleene Klass’s expression mirrored disbelief.
Realizing her slip-up, Mariella quickly apologized, saying, “I am so sorry if I offended anyone with the P-word.” Host Christine Lampard showed support, saying, “I’m glad you said it,” which seemed to ease the tension. Mariella, still somewhat concerned, responded with a hint of worry, saying, “I hope I haven’t shocked the nation.” Christine, in a playful mood, quipped, “They were shocked.”
To lighten the mood and wrap up the awkward segment, Mariella returned to her original point with a smile, saying, “If someone gave my husband that card I would be pretty annoyed.” The audience, along with her co-panellists, laughed off the blunder, making it clear that the moment was forgiven and the mood was back on track.
