A mum-of-two has opened up about the harsh judgment she faces because of her heavily tattooed appearance, revealing that parents “pull their children closer” when they spot her on the street. Kyla, an Illinois-based tattoo enthusiast, has spent a staggering $330,000 (£240,095) on body art, covering about 90% of her skin. Despite her love for tattoos and the support of her partner, Vampiro, who shares her passion for ink, Kyla has faced discrimination and harsh comments from the public.
In an interview with Truly TV on YouTube, Kyla shared how she grew up in a conservative Mormon church where she was not allowed to express herself through her clothing or appearance. “It was very conservative, strict, so I wasn’t allowed to do a lot of things I wanted to do growing up,” she admitted. As she got older, Kyla began experimenting with her look, and she hasn’t looked back since, as reported by the Mirror.
Now, Kyla is often under the tattooist’s needle twice a week, which is a stark contrast to her restricted upbringing. “I never in my life pictured that I would be this heavily tattooed,” she confessed, adding that her partner Vampiro is also covered in tattoos, according to the Daily Star.
However, the couple’s appearance has led to prejudice and discrimination. “We’ve been kicked out of restaurants for having face tattoos, before I even open my mouth we’re assumed to be bad parents,” Kyla explained. Despite this, she insists that they are “actually very normal, just like everybody else.”
Kyla has also faced criticism online, with some commenters claiming that she was once beautiful but “ruined” herself with tattoos. “The most common comment I see is – ‘you were so beautiful until you ruined yourself with tattoos,'” she said. But she is unfazed by the negativity, insisting, “None of that stuff bothers me – it’s not for attention, I just like the way I look.”
While there are many critics, Kyla also has a strong base of supporters. One commenter wrote: “Tattooed and pierced people are the most incredible individuals I have ever met,” and another supporter stated, “Tattoos don’t make you a bad parent.” On YouTube, admirers continue to share their praise, with one fan gushing, “She is absolutely gorgeous with or without tattoos.”
