Princess Beatrice and Eugenie called ‘Collateral Damage’ of Epstein scandal, says royal expert

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are continuing to feel the personal impact of the controversy surrounding their family, despite having played no role in any wrongdoing. According to a royal expert, the two sisters have effectively become collateral damage in the wider fallout from Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes and the scrutiny that followed their parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

In recent years, both sisters have found themselves repeatedly drawn into headlines linked to the public downfall of the Duke and Duchess of York. As Prince Andrew’s association with the convicted sex offender resurfaced in global media coverage, the consequences were swift and severe. Andrew lost his royal titles and public roles, while the family’s reputation suffered lasting damage.

Reports also suggest that the former couple lost access to key royal privileges, including their standing at Royal Lodge, once considered a symbol of the family’s stability. Royal expert Duncan Larcombe believes the effect on Beatrice and Eugenie has been deeply unfair.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said, “It’s sad because in many ways, Beatrice and Eugenie are two more victims of Jeffrey Epstein.” His comments highlight a growing view among royal watchers that the sisters have paid a heavy price for circumstances beyond their control.

Larcombe emphasised that neither princess has done anything to deserve the scrutiny that has followed them. “They have done nothing wrong, and yet they have been forced to sit and watch as their parents are torn to pieces by their own behaviours,” he said. The situation, he suggested, has left them carrying emotional and reputational burdens they did not create.

The expert also claimed that ex- Prince Andrew’s actions cost him more than just his public status. According to Larcombe, Andrew “lost them both,” referring not only to his royal title but also to the sense of family unity that once defined the York household.

While Beatrice has largely kept a low public profile, reports have increasingly suggested a growing distance between Andrew and Eugenie. Addressing recent speculation about their relationship, Larcombe said, “There’s every chance she has estranged herself from Andrew.”

He suggested that Eugenie’s professional and charitable work may be a contributing factor to that distance. “I think it’s partly because she’s involved with a few modern-day slavery charities and organisations, so she might feel she has to distance herself publicly from her father because of the nature of what is being said,” he explained.

Both Beatrice and Eugenie have worked to build their own identities beyond the royal institution, with careers, charitable efforts, and young families of their own. Yet, the ongoing association with their parents’ controversies continues to shape public perception.

For many observers, their situation underscores a broader reality of life within the royal family: that even those who have done nothing wrong can still face lasting consequences. As Larcombe’s comments suggest, the sisters are often seen not as participants in the scandal, but as its unintended casualties, trying to move forward under the shadow of events they never controlled.
