Brian May Back to Playing Music After Stroke as Anita Dobson Shares Heartwarming Update

Anita Dobson has confirmed that her husband, Sir Brian May, is recovering well after a health scare earlier this year. The 77-year-old music legend and Queen guitarist suffered a stroke in May, which led to him being rushed to the hospital. Thankfully, Anita reassured fans that Sir Brian is now “much better” and has regained use of his arm, which was initially affected by the stroke.

At the time of the incident, Sir Brian was left unable to use his arm, and doctors advised against traveling in order to manage his heart rate. However, his recovery has been swift, and Anita, 75, shared that he has since been able to return to playing music, including piano, at home. “He’s much better now, he’s stabilized now, which is brilliant,” she told attendees at the TRIC Christmas Lunch, as reported by The Mirror.

She went on to say, “I just hope we don’t have any more reoccurrences. He’s got the use of that arm, which was a bit of a challenge, back now.” Although Sir Brian described the stroke as “a little scary,” he humorously noted that the experience was “very exciting” due to the flashing blue lights of the emergency services.

Since his recovery, Sir Brian has been enjoying music once more, particularly playing piano. Anita revealed that the piano “is really, just very relaxing,” and that he didn’t attempt to play instruments until after recovering. “He didn’t actually try [to play an instrument] until after he’d recovered quite a bit. And then he very slowly started to pick up an acoustic guitar and gradually just exercised the muscles,” she explained.

Anita also shared that Sir Brian’s progress was a matter of “retraining the messages from your brain” and added that it had been a “scary” time for the family. She teased that he’s “too clever for his own good,” joking that his brain might be “overloaded.”

Despite his health challenges, Sir Brian has been out at low-key events, including Queen’s anniversary celebrations. Recently, he and drummer Roger Taylor attended the launch event for the 50th anniversary of Queen’s debut album, Queen I. As for the future, there’s potential for new Queen music. Roger confirmed, “If we feel we have some good material, why not?”
