26-Year-Old Mom Collapses and Dies After ‘Barbaric’ BBL Procedure, Staff Tried to Feed Her Cucumber

Demi Agoglia, a 26-year-old mother, tragically died following a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) operation in Turkey, where she received inadequate aftercare. Her story has drawn attention to the dangers of unregulated cosmetic surgeries endorsed by celebrities, as highlighted during an inquest at Bolton Coroner’s Court.

Despite concerns from her family, who believed the surgery was unnecessary, Ms. Agoglia was determined to proceed. She traveled to Istanbul on January 4 with her partner, Bradley Jones, though she was battling mental health issues and taking medication for ADHD and bipolar disorder. Just four days after the operation, she passed away in an Istanbul hospital, reported by the Daily Star.

Ms. Agoglia booked the procedure months in advance through Comfort Zone Surgery, a company endorsed by a celebrity. Her mother, Christine Tydd, had tried to dissuade her, reminding her daughter that she was a “good-looking girl” who didn’t need the operation.

After the surgery, Ms. Agoglia exhibited alarming symptoms, including shaking and extreme coldness. She complained of a tight chest, but the staff from Comfort Zone Surgery failed to check her vital signs. The inquest revealed that the employees who responded to her distress were not qualified nurses.

The situation worsened when Ms. Agoglia collapsed at the villa where she was staying. She was transported to Avrasya Hospital but passed away shortly after. Shockingly, she was not taken to the hospital in an ambulance but in the same taxi used for her previous post-operative visits.

Dr. Omar Tillo, a Harley Street plastic surgeon, described the actions of the Comfort Zone staff as “completely bizarre,” including their attempt to revive Ms. Agoglia using cucumber slices. He emphasized the severe lack of care, stating, “The failure to address post-operative complications likely played a significant role in Demi’s tragic outcome.”

A post-mortem examination was unable to determine the exact cause of death, but pathologist Dr. Usha Chandran criticized the widespread promotion of cosmetic procedures by celebrities and their performance in “shoddy clinics.”

Coroner John Pollard concluded that Ms. Agoglia’s death resulted from a misadventure, aggravated by neglect. He highlighted the lack of informed consent, inadequate pre-and post-operative care, and the substandard practices at the clinic. “The care in total fell well below the standard expected and contributed significantly to Demi’s death,” he said.

In a plea to the UK Health Secretary, Mr. Pollard vowed to address the dangers of such unregulated procedures, urging action to prevent further tragedies.
