Woman Dies After Raising Concerns About Surgeon Just Before Procedure – Shocking Details Uncovered

Janet Lynne Savage, a 54-year-old woman from Wales, tragically died following a gastric sleeve procedure at a hospital in Antalya, Turkey. The £2,750 surgery, intended to aid in weight loss, turned fatal when Savage suffered cardiac arrest shortly after the operation began. An inquest in Caernarfon has since determined that her death was caused by damage to one of her main arteries, which led to acute blood loss.

Savage, who had sought assistance for the procedure through Regenesis Health Travel, had reached out to the company in July 2023 to arrange the surgery. In just 24 hours, her trip was booked, and she was registered for the procedure in Turkey, as reported by BBC. However, an inquiry into her death reveals that Savage had expressed concerns prior to the surgery. According to Alison Ergun, a client service officer at Regenesis, Savage was apprehensive about the surgeon and had asked for more information about him before finalizing her decision.

Ergun, who provided a statement for the inquest, described the moment when Savage’s health took a fatal turn, stating, “There was a complication and she had stopped breathing in the first few minutes of surgery.” Savage was immediately taken to the intensive care unit, but the efforts to stabilize her were unsuccessful. She succumbed to her injuries later that day, the inquest revealed.

Savage’s decision to undergo gastric sleeve surgery was motivated by her struggles with weight gain and her concern over no longer having access to the weight-loss medication Ozempic. She had previously used the drug as part of her weight management routine but expressed worry over gaining weight after losing access to it. This concern led her to seek out a more permanent solution through surgery.

Cosmetic and weight-loss procedures abroad have become increasingly popular, with Turkey as a leading destination due to lower costs compared to other countries. However, the risks associated with medical tourism are significant, as cases like Savage’s highlight. Experts advise individuals considering surgery abroad to thoroughly research both the procedures and practitioners involved, as well as to be aware of the potential risks.

The tragic circumstances surrounding Savage’s death have raised awareness about the importance of transparency and caution when undergoing medical procedures abroad. Her story serves as a reminder for those considering such options to approach them carefully, ensuring all information and safety protocols are well understood before making any commitments.
