Tom Parker Bowles Reveals the Affectionate Nickname His Kids Have for King Charles
Tom Parker Bowles, son of Queen Camilla, recently shared a charming glimpse into his family life, revealing the affectionate nickname his children use for their grandfather, King Charles. During a candid chat on Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, the 49-year-old food writer disclosed that his children, Lola, 17, and Freddy, 14, fondly refer to the monarch as ‘Uppa.’
Speaking about the close bond between the King and his grandchildren, Parker Bowles explained, “The children, of course, don’t really know any different. So ‘Uppa,’ as they call the King, they’ve grown up with this man that they all love and think is wonderful.”
He went on to say that while his children see their grandfather as just a regular family figure, outsiders often remind them of Charles’s royal status. “People ask them, and they are like, ‘What? It’s just Uppa!’” Tom said with a laugh, adding, “So yes, I mean, a healthy perspective I think, but you have to keep saying, ‘It’s the King. Get out your tracksuit bottoms!’”
In the heartfelt interview, Parker Bowles also shared his admiration for his mother, Queen Camilla, particularly in her role as a grandmother. He praised her for being a “really good grandmother,” and mentioned that family gatherings at her home in Wiltshire offer a much-needed escape from their busy lives, reports the Mirror. He also revealed some of Camilla’s culinary talents, despite describing her as a “basic English cook.”
According to Tom, Queen Camilla doesn’t follow recipes too closely or measure ingredients precisely, but one dish stands out as a family favorite: her roast chicken. While she may not be an expert baker, her roast chicken remains a hit at family gatherings.
During a previous interview with the Express, Parker Bowles touched on how his mother has been coping with her husband’s battle with cancer, stating, “[The] doctor says the treatment is going well. She’s tough, my mother.” King Charles was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February, which led him to step back from Royal duties to focus on his health.
Fortunately, Charles’ condition has improved, and he has resumed some public engagements over the past few months. Notably, he made appearances in Southport after a tragic stabbing attack and at an event marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
The Royal couple is now preparing for a brief tour of Australia and Samoa, scheduled from October 18 to October 26, with Queen Camilla remaining a steady presence by Charles’ side throughout his recovery.
