Schoolgirl Kaliyah Coa, 11, Disappears Sparking Massive Search Operation

An urgent search operation is underway in East London after 11-year-old Kaliyah Coa went missing in the River Thames, sparking heartbreak and concern across the local community.

The schoolgirl, described as bright and full of life, was enjoying an inset day on Monday afternoon when tragedy struck. At around 1.23pm, Kaliyah reportedly entered the water near Barge House Causeway, close to London City Airport, and has not been seen since.

Emergency services responded within minutes, launching a large-scale search effort in hopes of finding the young girl. Despite their rapid response and intensive efforts, she remains unaccounted for as of now.

The Metropolitan Police have since confirmed the identity of the missing girl and have shifted their operation to a recovery mission, signalling the gravity of the situation. Officers have been combing the area by land, air, and water, using boats, drone technology, and specialist diving teams in the search.

Chief Superintendent Dan Card shared a heartfelt message as the search continues: “Our specialist officers are supporting Kaliyah’s family through this deeply upsetting time and our thoughts go out to all those impacted by what has happened. We are committed to finding Kaliyah and are working with partners to conduct a thorough search over a wide area – utilising drone technology and boats.”

He added his gratitude to everyone who has rallied in support of the search and praised the emergency teams who acted quickly in the face of a traumatic and high-pressure situation.

“I’d like to thank the members of public, our first responding officers, and colleagues from other emergency services, as they responded rapidly to carry out a large-scale search during a highly pressurised and distressing time,” he said. “Equally we appreciate this has affected the wider community who have been extremely supportive. You will see extra officers in the area during the coming days – if you have any concerns then please speak to them.”

As the community continues to hold its breath, police have asked for anyone who may have seen anything or has information to come forward. Those with details can call 101 and quote the reference 3699/31Mar.

Kaliyah’s family, devastated by the incident, have requested privacy during this heartbreaking time, and the Met Police are continuing to offer support to them as the operation continues.

What was meant to be a carefree day off from school has turned into a nightmare for one family, and a stark reminder for all of the dangers that can lie beneath seemingly calm waters.

While the community prays for answers, the focus remains on bringing Kaliyah home and supporting her loved ones through every moment of this unimaginable ordeal.
