Ruth Langsford Opens Up About Menopause Struggles and Parenting Challenges on Loose Women

TV presenter Ruth Langsford recently opened up about a “difficult conversation” she had with her son, Jack, about the menopause. The 58-year-old Loose Women star shared her experience during a candid discussion with her co-hosts, including Coleen Nolan, Myleene Klass, and GK Barry. The conversation focused on the unique health burdens women face throughout their lives, from contraception to menopause, via the Daily Record.

Myleene Klass emphasized the importance of male involvement in supporting women’s health, mentioning that her own partner opted for a vasectomy as part of their shared responsibility. Reflecting on the changing attitudes towards women’s health, the panel noted that Generation Z parents seem to be more proactive in educating their sons on these issues.

Coleen Nolan added to the discussion with a personal story about her daughter Ciara’s boyfriend, who willingly purchased sanitary products for her. “I would never have been able to ask a partner to do that,” Coleen admitted, highlighting the shift in acceptance and openness among younger generations.

Langsford shared her own journey of teaching Jack about menopause and the importance of understanding women’s health. She explained, “I always say as a mother of a son, it is our responsibility to talk to young men about contraception, about women’s health, about periods, and about menopause“, reports the Mirror. Reflecting on a moment when she became unusually irritable with Jack, she realized it was time to explain menopause. “I had to then explain to him, ‘let me tell you about something called the menopause. It’s why mummy’s a bit cross today,’” she recalled, receiving nods of agreement from her fellow panelists.

The conversation turned to the quality of sex education in schools, with the youngest member, GK Barry, sharing her own frustrations. She recalled outdated methods, such as “putting a condom on a banana,” and expressed disappointment over the lack of progress in health education over the years.

Amid these conversations, Langsford is also navigating personal challenges, as she and her former husband, Eamonn Holmes, recently announced their separation after 14 years of marriage. The former This Morning hosts confirmed the split in a joint statement, stating, “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

Since the announcement, Eamonn has moved on with his new partner, Katie Alexander, a marriage counselor, as the two continue to co-parent Jack. Langsford’s candid reflections on menopause and family illustrate her ongoing efforts to foster openness and awareness about women’s health issues across generations.
