Ranvir Singh, star of Good Morning Britain, has been flooded with love and support after revealing the terrifying details of her recent hospital visit. The 47-year-old broadcaster, who stepped in for Lorraine Kelly on her chat show last week, took to Instagram this morning to share the news of her sudden health scare.
Ranvir explained she was rushed to the hospital after experiencing a ruptured appendix, which required emergency surgery. She revealed that she first noticed something was off when she woke up feeling drained. However, like many of us do, she powered through and tried to get on with her day, sipping a few coffees to shake off the tiredness. She went on to host the show without any issues, but things took a turn for the worse once she finished her shift, reported the Liverpool Echo.
“At 10:30 am, I feel this sudden stomach ache. I stay in bed all day. Turns out I had a ruptured appendix and had urgent surgery at midnight on Thursday!” she shared. “Woke up at 5 am on Friday morning, high on anaesthetic and certain I could get into work to host the show as normal… Pretty nasty few days.”
Unfortunately, the situation was worse than she initially thought. The bacteria had spread and infected her blood, which left her with a long road to recovery. Ranvir’s doctor advised her to take this week off to rest and recover, with strict instructions to avoid driving for a week and exercise for at least four weeks. “It’s the boredom that will kill me!” she joked.
She also asked her followers if anyone else had experienced “horrendous shoulder pain” after surgery, adding, “It’s mad, isn’t it!”
In the comments section, Ranvir received an outpouring of support from her co-stars. Susanna Reid, who hosted Good Morning Britain alongside Richard Madeley today, wrote: “Awful – so scary – so glad you are now recovering – loads of love.” Alex Beresford also wished her a speedy recovery, posting: “Awwww wishing you a speedy recovery xxxx.” Sean Fletcher expressed his shock, saying, “Blimey, Ranvir! What a shock. I hope you’re ok and recovering quickly.”
Andi Peters stepped in to host Lorraine today in Ranvir’s absence and offered his own message of support. He said: “First things first, I’ve just got to say get well soon to Ranvir, who can’t be here today… Which is why they have drafted in a man in a bright orange shirt just to make sure you are awake this morning. Get well soon, Ranvir. We send you all of our love.”
