Prince William wants to ‘modernise’ the British royal family
0Prince William “respects protocol” but plans to “modernise” certain aspects of the British royal family and make it “more relatable” when he becomes King, a new report has claimed.
William’s father Prince Charles, 72, is next in line to the throne when his mother Queen Elizabeth II abdicates or passes away and then William will take over from his dad.
The 38-year-old royal is already making plans with his wife Duchess Catherine as to how the British monarchy can be changed to become more relatable to the public and do away with some protocol that is outdated.
[adrotate banner=”3″]A source told the new issue of Us Weekly magazine: “William is already thinking about the future of the Monarchy and the changes he’ll make. While he respects protocol, he plans to modernise some aspects and is making it his mission to be more relatable than previous generations.”
William and 39-year-old Catherine – who have three children, Prince George, seven, and Prince Louis, three, and six-year-old Princess Charlotte – are also happy to continue sharing elements of their family life with the public as they know that people are interested in what it’s like to be royals.
The source added: “He and Kate have successfully created a healthy balance of openness [in the public eye] while maintaining the sense of mystery that surrounds the royal family and keeps us engaged. William accepts that being in the spotlight is part of the job, and is fine with it. He takes his future role as King and seriously and sees at as a great honour and privilege to be in his position. The monarchy and his family will always come first.”
Former royal Butler Paul Burrell, who worked for William’s late mother Princess Diana, has previously spoken about how we won’t see “change” in the royal family until William is on the throne.
Speaking on Vicky Pattison’s podcast earlier this year, he said: “We are not going to see change, real change until Prince William will become King. Then Princess Diana’s genes inside Prince William will kick in and make the royal family more approachable, acceptable and out there. I think Prince Charles will follow the traditional route, his mother’s route, his grandmother’s route.”
William’s younger brother Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, stepped down from being senior royals in 2020, moving from the UK to Los Angeles with their 23-month-old son Archie.
