Prince Andrew Faces £400,000 Repair Bill Amid Warnings of Serious Health Risks from Neglecting Palace Upkeep

Prince Andrew has been warned of potential health hazards posed by the deteriorating state of the Royal Lodge, his 31-room residence, as his ongoing dispute with King Charles complicates maintenance efforts. The historic property is reportedly in urgent need of repairs, with issues including mould, structural cracks, and other significant damages.

According to reports, the Duke of York has been informed that annual repairs could cost up to £400,000. Property expert Terry Fisher recently raised concerns about the potential health risks associated with neglecting necessary repairs. According to Daily Express, Fisher explained that if the issues are not addressed, the mould and structural damage could lead to serious health problems such as allergies, asthma, and other respiratory conditions.

“If Andrew doesn’t tackle the visible mould and structural cracks soon, it could have far-reaching effects,” Fisher warned. He emphasized that untreated dampness and mould could not only pose serious health hazards but also impact the liveability of the residence. Mould and dampness, if left unchecked, can worsen over time, potentially rendering parts of the property uninhabitable.

In addition to health concerns, the ongoing neglect could also jeopardize Prince Andrew’s stewardship of the property. Fisher cautioned that structural issues might raise questions from the Crown Estate regarding Andrew’s maintenance of the historic residence. “If allowed to worsen, these structural problems might also raise questions from the Crown Estate about his stewardship of the property,” he explained.

The warning underscores the escalating challenges facing Prince Andrew as he balances mounting repair costs and his dispute with the Crown. The Royal Lodge, known for its historic charm, requires urgent attention to prevent further deterioration. If the necessary repairs are not made soon, Andrew may find himself facing both health risks and scrutiny from the Crown Estate, potentially jeopardizing his tenure at Royal Lodge.
