Prince Philip’s Nickname for Meghan Markle Revealed His Reservations

The late Prince Philip reportedly had a nickname for Meghan Markle that reflected his reservations about her, drawing a historical parallel to another American divorcee in the royal family, Wallis Simpson.

According to royal expert Ingrid Seward, the Duke of Edinburgh saw similarities between Meghan and Wallis Simpson, who married King Edward VIII, leading him to privately refer to Meghan as “The Duchess of Windsor.” This moniker, abbreviated as “DoW,” was never used in Meghan’s presence but signifies Philip’s cautious perspective on her joining the royal family.

In her book ‘My Mother and I,’ Seward notes that Prince Philip was “wary” of Meghan from the beginning, perceiving her as potentially disruptive within the royal hierarchy. This sentiment contrasted with Queen Elizabeth II’s more optimistic view, as she harbored “high hopes” for Meghan’s integration into royal life.

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Meghan and her husband Prince Harry have relocated to California, focusing on their family and various professional endeavors. Despite plans for Harry to return to the UK for the upcoming tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games, Meghan is expected to stay in the U.S., citing safety concerns and a wish to avoid potential conflicts.

Meghan’s visits to the UK have been limited since the couple’s departure from royal roles, with her attendance at significant events like Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022 being exceptions. She notably did not accompany Harry to King Charles III’s coronation, highlighting the ongoing complexities of their relationship with the royal family.
