Nikita Kuzmin Dodges Strictly Scandal Question in Tense Interview
0Strictly Come Dancing professional Nikita Kuzmin has declined to engage in discussions regarding the ongoing scandal surrounding the BBC show, which is now under internal investigation.
During an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, Kuzmin spoke with host Lorraine Kelly about the upcoming series of the beloved dance competition, set to return in just a few days. However, the conversation steered clear of the recent controversies that have plagued the show, with allegations of toxicity and misconduct coming to light.
In recent months, the BBC has been investigating claims of inappropriate behavior behind the scenes. The scandal intensified after actress Amanda Abbington accused her former dance partner Giovanni of “bullying” and “aggressive behavior” during their time on the show. Giovanni has vehemently denied the accusations, stating that he did not engage in any “abusive or threatening” conduct, told the Mirror.
Despite his denials, Giovanni was dropped from the upcoming 20th series. Another former professional dancer, Graziano Di Prima, was also cut from the show after similar allegations regarding his behavior in the rehearsal rooms surfaced. Lorraine Kelly, addressing the behind-the-scenes tensions, asked Nikita about the current atmosphere among the dancers.
“You know what it’s been like over the summer, are you all ok?” she inquired. Kuzmin, eager to shift focus away from the scandal, responded confidently, “No, we are great.” He then added, “The show is back. We are back, you saw the trailer ‘The Vegabus is coming…’ the song sticks in your head, but no, very good. You know, Strictly is like a warm blanket, it feels like home.”
Lorraine chimed in, agreeing, “That’s what we want, we want that spirit back again, we really do, we want sparkles and spangles and all that going on.” Despite the ongoing investigation, the BBC is moving forward with the new season. The launch show is set to air on Saturday, September 14, at 7.20 pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. During the episode, viewers will learn which celebrity is paired with which professional dancer.
This year’s celebrity contestants include Olympian Sam Quek MBE, JB Gill, Tasha Ghouri, and Shayne Ward, among others. In response to the recent controversies, the BBC has introduced new measures to ensure the wellbeing of participants. These include two new dedicated welfare officers and additional training for production teams and crew members.
Furthermore, celebrities will no longer be left alone with their professional partners during rehearsals. BBC’s Director of Unscripted, Kate Phillips, addressed the situation, stating, “Whilst we know our shows have been positive experiences for the vast majority of those who have taken part, if issues are raised with us, or we’re made aware of inappropriate behavior, we will always take that seriously and act.” As the investigation continues, the BBC remains committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all involved in the production.
