Ryan Wellings’ Mum Breaks Silence with Four Words After Kiena Dawes’ Tragic Death

The mother of Ryan Wellings, a man convicted of domestic abuse, has publicly defended her son following the suicide of his girlfriend, Kiena Dawes. Wellings was sentenced to six and a half years at Preston Crown Court on January 16 after Kiena took her own life in July 2022, leaving behind a suicide note that labeled Wellings as a “monster.”

Ryan Wellings was found guilty of assault and coercive and controlling behavior over a two-year period but was acquitted of manslaughter after a six-week trial. Judge Robert Altham, the Honorary Recorder of Preston, condemned Wellings for his relentless abuse, stating that he made Kiena feel “worthless” and led her to believe she was an “unfit mother.”

The judge highlighted how Wellings’ actions exacerbated Kiena’s fragile mental health, ultimately contributing to her tragic decision to end her life, reports the Mirror. Despite the court’s findings, Wellings’ mother, Lisa Green, stood by her son outside the courtroom. In a heartfelt TikTok video, she described Kiena as “a very poorly girl,” expressing sympathy for the deceased while defending her son.

“He is very sad about it,” Green said, adding, “She was a very poorly girl.” During the sentencing, Judge Altham praised Kiena Dawes as “a popular, vivacious, friendly, and kind young woman” and detailed the severe impact of Wellings’ abuse. “You repeatedly assaulted and abused her. You would hit her again and again. In the messages, she pleaded with you to stop.

Knowing her previous suicide attempts and fragile mental health, you repeatedly told her she may as well kill herself,” the judge remarked. Kiena Dawes, a hairdresser from Fleetwood, Lancashire, endured two years of violence and emotional torment from Wellings. Diagnosed with emotionally unstable personality disorder, Kiena struggled with impulsivity, low self-esteem, and relationship difficulties—traits that Wellings exploited throughout their nine-month relationship.

Her suicide note poignantly stated, “The end. I fought hard, I fought long. I went through the pain no one could imagine. I was murdered. Ryan Wellings killed me. He ruined every bit of strength I had left. I had dreams. I had a future at one point. That was taken away from me.”

Prosecutor Mr. Greaney described Wellings as an “entitled, aggressive bully,” while friends of Kiena painted a grim picture of Wellings as a “horrible little bas****” with a jealous streak. Wellings’ abusive behavior included physical assaults, threats, and relentless emotional manipulation. His actions escalated during Kiena’s pregnancy, leading to increased violence and humiliation.

Despite multiple police interventions, Kiena feared Wellings’ threats of taking their daughter away if she reported the abuse, preventing her from seeking legal protection. The court heard that Kiena was trapped in a destructive cycle of breaking up and reconciling with Wellings, who continuously manipulated her to excuse his behavior.

Kiena Dawes’ suicide note was read aloud during the trial, revealing the depth of her despair and the extent of Wellings’ abuse. “I was murdered. Ryan Wellings killed me,” she wrote, underscoring the devastating impact of sustained domestic violence on victims’ mental health.

The tragic case highlights the critical need for effective support systems and intervention for victims of domestic abuse, emphasizing the severe consequences that unchecked abusive behavior can have on individuals and their families.
