Meghan Markle Reportedly Adapts to ‘Second Fiddle’ Role in Marriage to Prince Harry

According to royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, Meghan Markle is reportedly beginning to accept what it means to stay married to Prince Harry, albeit with some reluctance. Schofield’s comments surfaced shortly after Meghan released a video message addressing the prevention of online child violence, sparking discussions around her current role in the public eye.

During a conversation with ITV, Schofield analyzed Meghan’s demeanor and speculated on her acceptance of playing a secondary role in the public spotlight. “Watching that video, didn’t it feel like Meghan was reluctantly accepting the role as second fiddle and allowing him the spotlight?” Schofield questioned, observing that Meghan’s body language appeared subdued compared to her previous public appearances.

She suggested that Meghan’s seemingly reserved demeanor might be part of a calculated public relations strategy, hypothesizing, “I am wondering if that is their publicist saying, ‘They don’t like the fact you wear the pants in the family. It’s the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.’” Schofield’s insights hint at the notion that Meghan may be adjusting her public image to accommodate Harry’s prominence in their joint appearances.

Kevin O’Sullivan, the ITV host, also weighed in on the discussion, pointing out Meghan’s choice of words during her speech. He noted her use of the phrase “my husband and I”—a line famously used by the late Queen Elizabeth II to denote the unity of the royal couple. O’Sullivan remarked, “She is reduced to borrowing the late Queen’s favorite phrase, all of her speeches began with ‘my husband and I,’ it was a national joke in Britain.”

O’Sullivan speculated that Meghan’s use of the phrase may be a strategic attempt to adopt a more traditional stance in public, even if it seemingly reduces her to the “role of a little wife, really, taking the second position.” He argued that Meghan, who has previously been known for her assertive and independent public image, may be navigating a new balance in her role alongside Prince Harry, especially as the couple adjusts to a life less connected to royal duties but still very much in the public eye.

These comments come amidst ongoing scrutiny of the Sussexes’ public and private lives, with royal watchers continuing to analyze how Meghan and Harry present themselves. For years, Meghan has often been perceived as a strong influence in her marriage, but recent appearances have sparked speculation that she might be consciously taking a backseat to shift the public narrative.

Whether this evolution in Meghan’s public image is a conscious strategy or simply a natural adjustment remains open to interpretation. Yet, the speculation suggests that Meghan may be learning to embrace a supportive role, allowing Harry to take more of the spotlight. For a couple once viewed as redefining royal roles, this shift underscores the complexities they face in navigating a balance between public expectations and personal autonomy.
