Tragic Loss Turns to Joy Widow of Late Hockey Star Matthew Gaudreau Welcomes Baby Boy 4 Months After His Death
Madeline Gaudreau, the widow of former hockey star Matthew Gaudreau, has joyfully announced the birth of their first child, a baby boy named Tripp Matthew, reported by Page Six. She shared the heartwarming news on Instagram on December 29, posting a photo of her newborn’s hand next to a sign that read, “He’s Here.” In her caption, she wrote: “Tripp Matthew 🤍🦋 Mommy & Daddy’s world.”
Matthew Gaudreau tragically passed away at the age of 29 in August following a fatal accident, leaving his wife and family devastated. His memorial service was held in early September, and at that time, Madeline opened up about her grief, saying, “This last week has felt like I’ve been trapped in a nightmare I can’t wake up from. I feel numb, angry, sad, and blessed all at once. Some days, the thought of this new reality is debilitating, but mostly I just miss Matt.”
She also shared that Matthew had been incredibly excited about their pregnancy, adding: “The moment we found out about our son Tripp, it consumed him every day. He was downloading apps, ordering books, finding the best diaper brand, making sure I had the best vitamins, and asking for tips from John.” Madeline continued, “I’m so thankful God gave us a child, a little Matty to run around for life, to carry on his legacy. Tripp will know how much his father loved him, and I promise to do all the things with him we talked about.”
In October, Madeline had a beautiful baby shower, which she shared with her followers on social media. She wrote, “Baby Shower of my Dreams 🤍🕊️ Thank you @gabriellevasaturo for hosting. @bitesizedsis you’re amazing, my husband would have loved all the balloons.” She also expressed how meaningful it was to incorporate Matthew’s memory into the celebration: “The way you were able to tie in my husband brought instant tears when I walked in. All my friends and family, nothing will bring his dad back or Uncle John, but I am glad he has so many amazing people around him to remind him how amazing they are 💙.”
