Linda Robson Breaks Silence on Pauline Quirke’s Devastating Dementia Battle

In a poignant revelation, Linda Robson, best known for her role in the beloved sitcom Birds of a Feather, has publicly addressed her longtime friend Pauline Quirke’s battle with dementia. The news, shared on social media and through various media outlets, has left fans and colleagues deeply moved, according to the Mirror.

Pauline Quirke, 66, who has captivated audiences alongside Robson since the early days of their careers, was diagnosed with dementia in 2021. Following her diagnosis, Quirke’s husband, Steve Sheen, announced that she would retire from all professional and commercial duties to focus on her health. Sheen stated, “It is with a heavy heart that I announce my wife Pauline’s decision to step back from all professional and commercial duties due to her diagnosis of Dementia in 2021.”

Linda Robson took to Instagram to express her sorrow, writing: “This will be the only time I speak on behalf of my best friend, Pauline. For the past three years, I’ve been in close contact with her husband, Steve, and have spent time with Pauline. It breaks my heart to see her endure such a terrible illness. Out of respect for her family and her privacy, I will not be discussing this matter further.”

The announcement of Pauline’s condition was made public during an episode of Loose Women, where it was revealed that Robson had been aware of the diagnosis for some time. At the time of the announcement, Robson was on a Caribbean cruise near Grenada and was unaware that a statement was to be released. Her co-star, Ruth Langsford, addressed Robson’s absence, explaining, “Linda Robson, obviously great friends with Pauline, is actually away at the moment, otherwise she would have joined us today to talk about her friend. And obviously she has known for some time.”

Robson and Quirke have shared a friendship spanning over fifty years, though it has not been without its challenges. In 2020, Quirke’s absence from a special episode of Birds of a Feather fueled rumors of a falling out between the two friends. However, Robson has consistently denied these speculations. In a 2022 interview with The Mirror, Robson clarified, “People say Pauline and I have fallen out. Obviously I couldn’t see her during lockdown but I’ve seen her since. She just doesn’t want to act anymore. She’s had enough – it’s long hours. She’s concentrating on her drama academies. She’s very hands on, going to classes and all that.”

Despite past tensions, Robson has shown unwavering support for Quirke. In an effort to dispel feud rumors, the two were seen together in 2022, sharing a lunch and a photo captioned, “A lovely lunch with my beautiful friends,” which Robson posted on Instagram. She further opened up in 2023 during an episode of Loose Women, admitting to feeling “envious” of Quirke’s more serious acting roles but expressed contentment in pursuing her own dramatic endeavors.

Pauline Quirke’s diagnosis has not only impacted her immediate family but has also resonated deeply within the entertainment community. Robson’s heartfelt statements underscore the profound bond between the two actresses and highlight the personal struggles faced behind the scenes of their professional lives.

As Pauline continues to navigate her illness, supporters and fans alike extend their thoughts and prayers, hoping for strength and comfort for both her and her cherished friend, Linda Robson.
