Hilarie Burton Morgan dishes out interesting details about ‘One Tree Hill’ reboot

Hilarie Burton Morgan has opened up about the anticipated reboot of “One Tree Hill,” sharing her enthusiasm for the project’s fresh, female-driven perspective. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Burton Morgan expressed her commitment to fostering female collaboration in her current projects, which she deems crucial to their success.

“What I can say is that this go-around, being able to work with a team of women and look at these stories [and] these characters through a female lens is something that — whether I was doing a reboot or a new show or a different movie at this phase in my life, female teamwork is something that is so vital to me,” Burton Morgan explained.

The actress, renowned for her role as Peyton Sawyer on the hit teen drama, where she starred for six seasons, is embracing the opportunity to revisit the series with a new narrative approach. Reflecting on her growth, Burton Morgan noted, “The stories I want to tell in this phase of my life are very different than they were when I was 20. That certainly affects how you tell stories.”

Burton Morgan and co-star Sophia Bush were taken aback when rumors of the reboot leaked in August, but the actress highlighted the overwhelmingly positive response from fans and former cast members alike. This support has buoyed their hopes for a Netflix greenlight.

“It is the core of anything I’ve done that’s successful,” she remarked about working collaboratively with women. “So, I’m excited to be able to team up with people that I look up to, people that I love dearly.”

This move comes nearly seven years after Burton Morgan, Bush, and 16 other female cast and crew members publicly accused “One Tree Hill” creator Mark Schwahn of sexual harassment, marking a significant shift towards empowerment and change within the industry.

Burton Morgan’s passion for storytelling through a lens of female empowerment and collaboration signals a promising direction for the reboot, aligning with broader movements within Hollywood for greater inclusivity and respect.
