Harry and Meghan ‘deliberately disconnecting’ from Royal Family with London home

The Express has reported that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s alleged intention to buy a private property in London has raised eyebrows concerning their relationship with the Royal Family. The couple’s move to seek their own residence, rather than residing on King Charles’s estate, is viewed by some as a possible effort to further distance themselves from the royal fold.

Kieran Elsby, a PR specialist, expressed to The Mirror that the couple’s actions might indicate a pursuit for “privacy and independence”, which could exacerbate the gap between them and the Royal Family. He noted the challenge for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is striking the right balance between personal autonomy and acknowledging the institution that has played a prominent role in their lives.

The Sussexes’ reported real estate exploration in London is set against a backdrop of strained relations, particularly after their candid Oprah Winfrey interview in 2021. The couple disclosed they were financially independent, relying on Prince Harry’s inheritance from Princess Diana.

Previously, the couple resided at Frogmore Cottage, a Windsor estate property, which was refurbished with £2.4 million from public funds. The residence is now home to Princess Eugenie and her family.

Sources cited by The Sunday Times suggest the Sussexes are exploring premium London neighborhoods, emphasizing their desire for a home that is distinctly theirs. An insider mentioned they refrained from seeking property on King Charles’s estate to avoid accusations of exploiting royal privileges.

Dr. Ed Owens, a monarchy expert, opined that any reconciliation seems to be in the hands of the Sussexes, observing that they’ve shown little inclination to reconnect with royal traditions, he told GB News.

In summary, while Harry and Meghan’s search for a London home might be seen as a practical move for their ventures, it also highlights the ongoing complexities in their relationship with the Royal Family.
