Ron Kenoly Dies at 81 Leaving a Global Legacy of Worship Music

The gospel music world is grieving after the death of legendary American singer and songwriter Ron Kenoly, who has passed away at the age of 81. The hugely respected worship leader died on Tuesday, February 3, leaving behind a global legacy that shaped modern gospel music and church worship for decades.

News of his passing was shared by his longtime music director, Bruno Miranda, who confirmed the loss in a heartfelt post on social media. Writing on Instagram, Bruno announced, “This morning, Feb. 3, 2026, we said goodbye to Dr. Ron Kenoly,” marking the end of a musical and spiritual partnership that spanned more than 20 years.

Ron Kenoly was more than just a well-known gospel singer. For many believers around the world, his songs became a soundtrack to worship services, prayer meetings, and personal moments of faith. Tracks like All Honor helped bring contemporary worship music into churches far beyond the United States, including the UK, where his influence was felt strongly across congregations of all backgrounds.

In his tribute, Bruno Miranda spoke about the depth of their relationship, describing it as far more than a professional collaboration. “For over 20 years, I had the honor of walking alongside him in ministry around the world, not just as his music director, but as a son, a student, and a witness to a life marked by faithfulness,” he wrote. The message painted a picture of a man who lived his beliefs daily, both on and off the stage.

Bruno was keen to stress that Ron Kenoly never saw himself as a performer in the usual sense. “He was never an artist, never an entertainer. He was a worship leader. And he took all the time necessary to explain what that truly meant,” he shared. According to those close to him, Kenoly was deeply intentional about teaching others the difference between performing music and leading people in worship.

That philosophy shaped his entire career. Bruno explained this further by quoting Kenoly’s view on ministry, saying, “A worship leader’s calling is not to perform songs, but to lead people into true worship in the presence of a King; the King of Kings, Jesus Christ.” It was a belief that resonated with many worship leaders who looked up to him as a mentor and example.

While the news has understandably left fans and fellow musicians heartbroken, Bruno’s message also carried a note of hope. “Today we grieve deeply but not without hope. The worship he lived is now the worship he beholds,” he added, offering comfort to those mourning the loss of a spiritual giant.

At the time of writing, the cause of death has not been made public. Despite this, tributes continue to pour in from across the world, with many sharing stories of how Ron Kenoly’s music helped them through difficult moments or brought them closer to their faith.

As the gospel community reflects on his life, one thing is clear. Ron Kenoly’s impact went far beyond chart success or sold-out events. His legacy lives on in churches, choirs, and quiet moments of worship, where his songs will continue to be sung for years to come.
