Extinction Rebellion’s Ongoing Climate Crisis Campaign in Bolton

The Bolton chapter of Extinction Rebellion (XR) remains committed to its mission of raising awareness about the climate crisis, hosting two significant events within a week.

On November 16, the organization organized a climate network at the Quaker Meeting House, drawing participation from over a dozen organizations, including Urban Outreach and Wildlife Trust. The gathering focused on discussions about engaging with authorities and communities regarding the urgent climate crisis.

Vicki Attenborough, a member of Bolton XR, emphasized the broad impact of the environmental emergency and the need for collaborative efforts, stating, “Together we can achieve so much more than we can individually, and we want this to be the start of a conversation across the town.”

Attenborough announced the commitment of the Bolton Trades Council to host the next network, expressing hope that both council members and officers will join in, emphasizing the strength in unity.

Following this, on November 18, the climate cafe took place at the Albert Halls, attracting approximately 20 residents. The focus of the discussion was on ways to celebrate Christmas Day with minimal or zero waste. Research indicates significant food and present waste in the UK during the festive season.

While Bolton XR is known for its protests, including demonstrations at the town hall and offices linked to Conservative MPs Chris Green and Mark Logan, the organization clarifies that participation in these actions is not obligatory for involvement in its overall activities.

The climate cafe is a recurring event at 10 am on the third Saturday of each month at the Albert Halls, with the next one scheduled for the New Year.
