Limoncello Death Mystery Couple’s Chilling Final Hours and Boyfriend’s Heartbreaking Dying Wish

Newly engaged couple Greta Marie Otteson and Arno Els Quinton were tragically found deceased in their guest house in Hoi An Town, Vietnam, on Boxing Day. The 33-year-old Greta and her 36-year-old fiancé had relocated to Vietnam just ten months prior, eagerly anticipating their first Christmas in the country. Reports indicate that the couple was poisoned by methanol-tainted limoncello, a homemade alcoholic digestif.

A source close to the family told The Times that “Police forensics established the limoncello was the source,” after the couple had purchased the homemade drink from a local eatery on Christmas Eve. The tragic discovery has left loved ones devastated as they come to terms with the sudden loss of Greta and Arno.

Greta believed to be Welsh, managed a social media firm named Not Sorry Socials, while Arno was a multifaceted professional working as a musician, barista, and streamer, according to the Mirror. The couple had been together for three years after meeting in Dubai and had recently embarked on a new chapter by managing the Hoi An Silverbell Hotel after registering for long-term residence in July, told the Mirror.

Their move to Vietnam was marked by excitement and anticipation, as Greta documented their journey on Instagram with posts like, “Still pinching myself that I’m here.” The couple’s joy peaked when Arno proposed to Greta just weeks before their untimely deaths. They shared the happy news through a beach photoshoot, captioned: “spoiler I said yes,” garnering enthusiastic congratulations from friends and followers.

On Christmas Eve, Greta and Arno dined at a restaurant before returning to their hotel, where they ordered homemade limoncello priced at 85,000 Vietnamese dong (approximately £2.60 per shot). A friend revealed that Arno had sent a voice message hours before his death, expressing that he was “super happy and excited about Christmas.” “Their plan, I think, was just to be together and experience Christmas in a new country,” the friend added. “It’s very tragic.”

On Christmas Day, a family member disclosed that Greta had sent a troubling message to her parents, complaining of the “worst hangover ever” and seeing “black spots” in her vision. The couple decided to “sleep off” their symptoms and declined offers to visit a hospital. A local bar owner and close friend offered to take them to the hospital, but they refused, and by then, it was too late.

Police discovered Greta’s body when they entered her room on Boxing Day, followed by Arno’s body in a separate room. Authorities have sealed off the premises and launched an investigation into the mysterious deaths. Methanol, the toxic chemical responsible, can cause severe health issues, including blindness, brain damage, and death, especially when present in improperly made homemade alcohol.

Friends and family have flooded social media with heartfelt tributes to Greta and Arno. One friend expressed, “Greta loved Arno unconditionally and was his bedrock, giving him the freedom to do what he needed to without a faltering foundation.” Arno’s friend Dayle Visser posted, “Rest in peace my brother. Thank you for always being the fierce friend you were. You saved me many a time. You were real and lived life harder than most people could ever dream of. I love you and I will always miss you.”

Another friend, Nick Frost, shared, “I still feel like you had a lot more to give the world: your music, your comedy, your photography. I’m so happy you and Greta are together. You guys really pulled through and did indeed spend the rest of your lives together, and now you get to spend the rest of whatever happens after that together too. Enjoy the Big Sleep my dear Arno and Greta.”

The loss of Greta and Arno has sent shockwaves through their community, highlighting the dangers of consuming unregulated homemade alcohol and the profound impact of sudden tragedies on families and friends.
