Homes Under the Hammer Star Dion Dublin Faces Heartbreaking Personal Tragedy

Dion Dublin, best known for his role on Homes Under the Hammer and his impressive football career, has become one of TV’s most familiar faces. The 54-year-old former Manchester United striker has seamlessly transitioned from scoring goals to renovating houses, but away from the cameras, he keeps his private life relatively low-key.

Dion is a devoted husband and father, having married his wife Cheryl, in 2017. The couple shares a three-year-old daughter, Ruby Roseanne, and often enjoy family getaways together. Dion occasionally gives fans a glimpse into their life, posting snaps of them dining out, jetting off on holidays, and spending quality time together at places like an alpaca farm or watching the Women’s World Cup, reported the Express.

Back in 2018, Dion opened up about his weekends with Cheryl, revealing that he prefers to stay in the UK when the weather allows. “I love getting away with my wife and dog,” he told The Mirror. He also admitted that Cheryl is the better cook, saying, “She does most of the cooking as I’m out at work and always makes sure I’m fed and watered.” And when it comes to a Sunday breakfast, it’s got to be a full English.

In July 2022, Dion suffered a devastating loss when his beloved sister, Carmen, passed away. Paying tribute to her, he shared a heartfelt post with a photo of himself and his siblings, writing: “Yesterday we lost our amazing sister Carmen, the heartbeat and backbone to our family. Our hearts are truly broken; we will be lost without you.”

The family has always been at the center of Dion’s life. As the youngest of five, he is part of the Windrush generation, with his parents moving from the West Indies to England. His late mother, Rose, worked as a district nurse, while his father, Eddie, now in his 80s, once had to make an extraordinary career decision.

Dion revealed in 2021 that his dad had the opportunity to either sign professional football forms with Fulham or go on tour as a bass player with Rod Stewart. “It was a pretty amazing choice to have,” Dion said. “He chose music. That was where his heart was. He’s 82 now and still playing bass in a reggae band.”

Music runs deep in the Dublin family. Dion himself plays percussion, his late mum played the mandolin, and his brothers are all musicians—Clem on lead guitar, Eddie on drums, and Ash on bass. Even Carmen played the keyboards.

Though Dion could have pursued music, football ultimately became his path. After a successful career with Manchester United, Coventry City, and Aston Villa, he moved into broadcasting. He joined Homes Under the Hammer in 2015 and has since been a regular pundit on Football Focus, Match of the Day, and other BBC Sports programs.

Whether on the pitch, in the studio, or at home with his family, Dion’s journey is one of passion, dedication, and deep-rooted love for both sport and music.
