Teen Dad in Coma After Motorbike Crash: Family Fears He’ll Have to Relearn to Walk and Talk

Seventeen-year-old Jake Styler, a single teen father and primary caregiver for his one-year-old son, is in a coma after a devastating motorbike collision. Jake was on his way to the shops on October 17 when his red Lexmoto motorbike collided with a car, leaving him with severe injuries that may require him to relearn basic functions like walking and talking, via the Mirror.

The accident occurred around 8:30 pm as Jake rode toward the Co-op in Bugle, St Austell. Emergency responders arrived quickly and transported him to The Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. From there, he was transferred to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth for specialized care. His family shared that Jake sustained two blood clots on the brain, multiple fractures to his feet and hands, a broken nose, and lacerated lungs.

Family friend Josie Littlefield, 51, is raising funds to support Jake’s family, who must travel daily from St Austell, Cornwall, to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. Josie described Jake as a “happy-go-lucky” kid who, despite the challenges of young parenthood, has been a loving and devoted father. “Jake may never be the same when he wakes up—he was never perfect, but he was good-as-gold and such a happy-go-lucky kid. He’s looking after his one-year-old son. It’s been hard enough for the family, but now they’re having to look after this little man as well. I just want to help them make things a bit easier,” she said.

The crash has left Jake’s family and friends grappling with the possibility of a long and challenging recovery. Jake’s role as a primary caregiver for his son only adds to the emotional and financial strain on his family. Josie’s fundraising efforts aim to help cover the costs of daily hospital visits and any additional support Jake’s family will need as he fights to recover.

As Jake remains in a coma, his loved ones are holding onto hope, despite the uncertainty of his future health. They describe him as resilient, and while the journey to recovery may be long, they are determined to support him every step of the way.
