King Charles Remains as Patron of Campaign for Wool Amidst Major Charity Patronage Revision

The Campaign for Wool has officially reaffirmed King Charles as its patron, continuing his long-standing commitment to promoting the environmental benefits of wool. This confirmation comes in light of recent announcements from Buckingham Palace that King Charles and other senior British royals will relinquish patronages of nearly 200 charities and organizations following a review of their affiliations with over 1,000 groups.

Established in 2010 by King Charles, then the Prince of Wales, the Campaign for Wool aims to bolster wool growers within the Commonwealth in their battle against the rise of synthetic fibers, which pose considerable environmental threats in industries such as fashion, interiors, and construction.

As the Campaign’s patron, King Charles has traveled extensively, from the UK to countries like Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and South Africa, to engage with wool growers and advocate for the use of wool, highlighting its sustainability and environmental advantages.

The Campaign for Wool aligns closely with King Charles’ recent focus on themes like Climate, Community, Commonwealth, and Culture, gaining increased relevance in the current climate crisis and the growing concern over plastic pollution.

King Charles has been a long-time proponent of natural fibers, having expressed concerns about the widespread adoption of plastics as early as his student days, over fifty years ago. Choosing wool, therefore, is positioned as a critical, environmentally-conscious decision, essential for the preservation of the planet for future generations.

Supported globally by a network of farmers, wool processors, designers, brands, and retailers, the Campaign for Wool is gearing up for a significant impact in 2024. Plans are underway to launch several innovative initiatives and collaborations during Wool Month in October, aimed at enhancing the visibility of wool in sustainable practices and influencing consumer choices, thus playing a crucial role in combating environmental damage.
