Abercrombie & Fitch ‘Appalled’ by Former CEO Mike Jeffries’ Arrest on S*x Trafficking Charges

Abercrombie & Fitch has expressed its shock and dismay following the recent arrest of its former CEO, Mike Jeffries, on federal charges of s*x trafficking and interstate prostitution, via CNBC. Jeffries, who led the apparel brand from 1992 to 2014, was arrested Tuesday alongside his partner Matthew Smith and another associate. According to prosecutors, the alleged incidents took place during Jeffries’ time at the company.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Abercrombie & Fitch responded to the allegations, saying, “As we shared when the accusations were first made public in October 2023, we are appalled and disgusted by the alleged behaviour of Mr Jeffries, whose employment with Abercrombie & Fitch Co. ended nearly 10 years ago.” The company further emphasized its commitment to cooperating fully with law enforcement as the legal process unfolds.

Abercrombie & Fitch highlighted its transformation over the past decade, noting, “For close to a decade, we have successfully transformed our brands and culture into the values-driven organisation we are today. We have zero tolerance for abuse, harassment or discrimination of any kind.” The brand, known for its past image controversies under Jeffries’ leadership, now focuses on fostering a more inclusive and ethical culture.

The company also offered its support to the alleged victims of Jeffries’ actions. A spokesperson added, “Speaking up and coming forward is not easy. Our thoughts remain with those who have bravely raised their voices as part of the federal investigation.”

Abercrombie & Fitch’s statement reflects a clear stance on the allegations and highlights the brand’s cultural shift since Jeffries’ tenure, as it continues to emphasize values-driven leadership and support for victims.
