Ben Thompson Apologizes to Carol Kirkwood After Making His Own Weather Predictions on BBC Breakfast

BBC Breakfast host Ben Thompson found himself apologizing to meteorologist Carol Kirkwood on Tuesday morning after he humorously attempted to make his own weather predictions. As the show transitioned to the weather segment, Ben joked with co-host Sally Nugent, saying, “So now that the Bank Holiday weekend is over, the weather is getting really good.”

The duo shared a laugh before Ben turned to Carol and said, “Carol can tell us more, good morning.” Carol, seeing the humor but wanting to clarify, responded with a light-hearted warning, “That is not the forecast, by the way,” before she continued with the actual weather forecast for the week, told The Mirror.

After Carol wrapped up her segment, Ben quickly apologized, acknowledging his misstep. “This is why we leave it to the professionals, Carol. That is much more accurate after my terrible forecast, I am sorry,” he said. Carol, taking it in stride, laughed and responded, “Bless you, Ben,” to which Ben added, “See you soon.”

Carol, who regularly shares weather updates on social media, had earlier posted a morning greeting on X, along with a snapshot of the week’s temperatures. “Good morning,” she wrote, noting that it was a “relatively mild start this morning,” and pointing out the 4°C temperature in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, the previous day.

Fans of Carol were quick to engage, sharing their own weather updates from various locations. One follower commented, “Morning Carol. Still dark here in Spain. Another half an hour then we can walk the dog. Say hello to Ratta. Have a good day.” Another added, “Good Morning to you Carol, on a pleasant start to the day near Heathrow.”

Meanwhile, the show also featured a segment where Ben and Sally discussed an upcoming announcement from Oasis, expected at 8 a.m. Fans were eagerly anticipating news from Liam and Noel Gallagher, hoping for their first tour dates since the band split in 2009.

However, the Oasis coverage wasn’t well-received by all viewers. While some were excited, others felt the show dedicated too much time to the news. One viewer commented, “Another no news day #BBCBreakfast,” while another pleaded, “Please stop talking about Oasis, you said it all yesterday.” Despite the mixed reactions, the light-hearted exchange between Ben and Carol provided a fun moment for the morning show, reminding viewers why they enjoy tuning in each day.
