Fetty Wap announces a comeback with new album following early prison release
Fetty Wap is preparing to make his musical comeback. The rapper has revealed that his fourth studio album, titled Zavier, will be released on March 27, marking a new chapter in his career following his recent release from prison.
The 34-year-old artist shared the announcement on Instagram along with a black-and-white video reflecting on the highs and lows of fame and personal growth. In the clip, Fetty opens up about the challenges he has faced and how those experiences shaped the direction of his upcoming music.
“When you lose the money everybody think that’s the worst part,” Fetty said in the video. He went on to explain that the quiet moments after losing fame and attention had a deeper impact on him than financial loss.
“When it get real quiet that’s when it hit different. I got so used to hearing Fetty everywhere I go, before I even knew who Zavier was.” The rapper, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, suggested that the pressure of fame eventually created distance between his public persona and his true identity.
“Somewhere in all that, I became a character in my own life. People really loved what I could provide for real, not who I really was,” added the Trap Queen crooner. “When they take everything away, what you got left is the person your momma made.”
The album announcement comes just two and a half months after Fetty Wap was released from prison. The “My Way” hitmaker was sentenced in May 2023 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances.
Maxwell, who is from Paterson, New Jersey, was initially arrested in October 2021 on charges that he allegedly participated in a drug smuggling conspiracy involving heroin, fentanyl and other drugs.
Following his release, the rapper has been focusing on rebuilding both his life and his music career. In a recent interview with Billboard, Fetty described Zavier as deeply personal and representative of a fresh start.
Speaking about the project, he said the album reflects a turning point in his life and outlook. “It’s a reflection of a new chapter in my life,” Fetty explained. He also expressed gratitude toward the fans and supporters who continued to stand by him during his time away from the spotlight.
“I’m just happy and grateful to be back and thankful that my fans didn’t forget about me. I’m so thankful to my family, fans and team for holding me down,” he said in his statement.
Fetty also took time to acknowledge the encouragement he received from people close to him. “I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support. It truly means everything to me,” continued the rapper. Beyond music, Fetty says he now wants to focus on giving back to the community and helping young people build better futures.
“Right now, my focus is on giving back through my community initiatives and foundation, supporting at-risk young children by expanding access to education, early tech skills, and vision care for young kids and students so they can show up as their best selves.”
He concluded by emphasising his determination to move forward with purpose. “I’m committed to moving forward with purpose and making a meaningful impact where it matters most.”
