A close friend of Britney Spears is speaking up after the pop star’s latest legal trouble, saying the version of Britney dominating headlines right now does not match the person he has known for years.

The singer, a mother of two, was arrested for driving under the influence after being pulled over by the California Highway Patrol late Wednesday evening. News of the arrest quickly spread online, reigniting conversations about Spears’ ongoing struggles and the intense public scrutiny that has surrounded her for years.

But Sean Phillips, who says he has known Britney for about two decades, believes the public is missing the bigger picture. According to him, the situation does not reflect the woman he knows personally.

Phillips revealed that he had actually been texting Spears around the time she was booked early Thursday morning. Despite the wave of criticism and concern following the arrest, he said his own experience with her has always been positive.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Phillips described the arrest as “out of character.” He continued with a simple defense of the singer, saying “She is such a great person.”

Phillips also shared that he reached out to Spears directly after hearing the news. When asked if he contacted her, he explained that he did. “Yes, I texted her to ask her if she was ok, and she responded, ‘I’m ok.’”

The longtime friend says Spears is not the first major celebrity he has known personally. He also knew Michael Jackson, another global superstar who faced years of intense media attention and controversy. Phillips said he regrets not supporting Jackson more during difficult times.

“I’m not going to do that for Britney,” he vowed.

Concern about Spears has surfaced multiple times in recent years. Reports suggest police have visited her home more than a dozen times over the past two years, fueling speculation among fans about her wellbeing.

Her publicist, Cade Hudson, addressed the latest incident and called what happened this week ‘inexcusable”. He also said Spears will get the help she needs moving forward.

The conversation has extended beyond her inner circle. On her podcast this week, Megyn Kelly suggested that Spears’ fame may play a significant role in the challenges she has faced.
