Jimmy Kimmel Criticizes Elon Musk Over Time’s AI Person of the Year Honor

Jimmy Kimmel didn’t hold back on Thursday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! as he took aim at Elon Musk and Time magazine for naming Musk and others as part of their 2025 “Architects of AI” and “Person of the Year.” The cover, which features Musk alongside Sam Altman, Mark Zuckerberg, and five other tech figures, prompted Kimmel to mock the decision in his usual comedic style.

Unveiling the cover to his audience, Kimmel quipped, “The eight dorks of the apocalypse,” as the crowd booed in response. His joke was aimed at the tech moguls featured, all of whom are heavily involved in artificial intelligence. Kimmel questioned the logic behind celebrating these figures, who admit to not fully understanding the implications of their creations, as per the Daily Mail.

Kimmel criticized the title itself, asking, “Is it really a good idea to honor ‘architects’ who don’t even know what their own creations might do?” He also pointed out the irony of awarding the “People who replaced people” with the prestigious title of Person of the Year. “The people who replaced people are Person of the Year,” he remarked, prompting laughter from the audience.

Turning to the magazine’s artwork, Kimmel couldn’t resist another jab, joking, “Despite all these advancements in AI, the cover still looks like Photoshop from 2007.” The image, which depicts the tech figures atop a high-rise building, was later explained by Time as a tribute to a famous 1932 photograph of construction workers in New York City.

The segment reignited Kimmel’s long-running feud with Musk, who had previously referred to the late-night host as an “insufferable nonsense propaganda puppet” on X (formerly Twitter). Kimmel responded by embracing the insult, humorously unveiling a graphic with the phrase and throwing a jab at Musk. “You run a literal propaganda machine,” Kimmel said.

To wrap up his segment, Kimmel quoted President Donald Trump’s criticism of Musk’s reliance on government subsidies, joking that Musk and Trump would be a “perfect pair.” The biting remarks once again showcased Kimmel’s knack for blending satire with pointed political commentary, leaving his audience in stitches.
