Meghan Markle Accused of Sabotage but Expert Says She Might Not Be That Smart

Meghan Markle is once again facing backlash — this time over the release of her new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, which dropped on the same day several major royal events took place. But according to a public relations expert, the timing might not be as calculated as critics suggest.

The Duchess of Sussex has been accused of deliberately choosing to launch her podcast during a high-profile moment for the Royal Family. On the same day, King Charles and Queen Camilla were on a state visit to Italy, while Prince Harry returned to the UK for a court hearing. This sparked accusations that Meghan was attempting to overshadow the royals.

However, PR expert Renae Smith told The Express that Meghan might not be as cunning or strategic as people believe. “[She is] deep in her own brand ecosystem, focused on personal content, and seemingly not clocking what anyone else (including Harry) is doing, or might need support with,” Smith explained.

She believes the narrative that Meghan is always manipulating timing for maximum impact may be exaggerated. “People often say this is all deeply calculated, but I’m not sure. Sometimes I think we give her too much credit for strategy,” she added.

Smith suggested that Meghan’s actions may not come from a place of strategy, but from being completely absorbed in her own work and personal brand. “It may be coincidence, or it may be manipulation — but I can’t quite tell if she’s smart enough, in a strategic thinking kind of way, to be that manipulative. Either way, it doesn’t really work in her favour,” she concluded.

The latest criticism adds to a string of controversies surrounding Meghan and her public projects. Since stepping back from royal duties with Prince Harry, she has focused on media ventures, including podcasts and production deals. Yet each move often seems to stir debate over her intentions and timing.

While some believe she’s playing a long game to shape her image and boost her personal brand, others — like Smith — argue she might be unintentionally creating tension with the Royal Family by not aligning her releases with ongoing royal events.

Either way, the reaction to her podcast release proves that Meghan’s every move is still under intense scrutiny, whether it’s the result of a master plan or simply unfortunate timing.
