Good Morning Britain Stops Live Broadcast for Urgent Breaking News Announcement

Good Morning Britain delivered “breaking news” from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) during Monday’s live broadcast, revealing that the UK economy recorded no growth in the third quarter of 2023. Presenters Kate Garraway and Ed Balls turned to Political Correspondent Louisa James for the update.

Louisa announced, “These figures that have come out just in the last couple of minutes show that in the months from July to September, the economy actually flatlined. Growth was zero; it had been predicted to be 0.1%, so a small difference but a significant one!”

The ONS had initially estimated a 0.1% growth in GDP for the quarter, but this revision highlights that the economy remained stagnant in the lead-up to the Autumn Budget. This news sparked further discussion in the ITV studio, with Ed Balls explaining what the statistics mean for the public, as reported by the Mirror.

The revised GDP figures come at a time of broader scrutiny over the UK’s economic performance, underscoring challenges faced by the government as it prepares for a new fiscal year.

In lighter moments, the program’s hosts have also been busy off-screen with festive celebrations. Kate Garraway, accompanied by her children Darcey, 18, and Billy, 15, recently attended former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan’s annual Christmas gathering. The event, held at the Scarsdale Tavern in Kensington, London, was a star-studded affair.

Piers Morgan, 59, who famously left Good Morning Britain in 2021 after a dramatic on-air walkout, reunited with his former colleagues, including Kate, Charlotte Hawkins, Richard Madeley, and Laura Tobin. The festive bash provided an opportunity for Piers to reconnect with his GMB friends in a dazzling holiday setting.

Meanwhile, lead presenter Susanna Reid is enjoying a well-earned Christmas break. In her final episode before the holidays, Susanna wrapped up with a heartfelt message: “Ending on a positive note, our amazing 1 Million Minutes campaign—I just want to say thank you to everybody who has pledged their minutes to the campaign.

“We have a special program on Christmas Day, but this is my last chance to say thank you to you before Christmas because it is my last program before Christmas Day. Good Morning Britain back tomorrow from 6 am. Have a happy Christmas from me, I’ll see you on Christmas Day.”

Despite the flatlined economy, the GMB team remains committed to bringing festive cheer and engaging updates to their viewers.
