Martin Roberts Bravely Sleeps Rough to Raise Homelessness Awareness and Funds
0Martin Roberts, the beloved Homes Under The Hammer presenter, recently took to social media to ask for public support as he prepared to spend a night sleeping rough to raise awareness and funds for homelessness. The 61-year-old property expert shared his experience with his followers, urging them to donate to his £1,000 fundraising target for the BillyChip charity.
In a heartfelt post to his 53,200 followers, Martin wrote, “Tonight’s the night I’m sleeping rough to raise awareness of the homeless and the @thebillychip charity. If you can help me reach my £1,000 target please donate… and if you can stay up I’ll need words to warm me.”
In a candid video, Martin described the challenging night ahead, saying, “So tonight I’m going to spend a fairly uncomfortable few hours experiencing sleeping rough. I’ve got a sleeping bag and other bits and pieces to try and make it slightly better. But at the end of the day, I know how hard this is going to be. It’s freezing cold. It’s November. It’s terrible.” He went on to emphasize the purpose of his participation, adding, “But it’s all to raise awareness for the homeless. I get the choice every once in a while, but there are people who don’t have that choice”, reported by the Express.
Fans quickly responded with encouragement and donations. One follower commented, “You are a [star]. Wish I was in the UK to bring you a hot toddy. Thinking of you and sending love instead. And yes, I’ll be donating xx.” Another added, “Good luck Martin!” while a third supporter wrote, “Well done, Martin, I’ve just donated! It’s a great cause, and I believe in you!”
Martin has a history of supporting homelessness initiatives. Reflecting on his decision to join CEO SleepOut Bristol 2024, he explained, “I’m joining a group of people from across Bristol for a night experiencing firsthand what it’s like to spend the night, homeless on the streets. I’m trying to raise awareness and funds for people facing adverse poverty and homelessness in the Bristol area.”
Martin also shared that his previous participation in a similar event resulted in a case of pneumonia, yet he remains dedicated to the cause. “Last time I did this, I caught pneumonia, but it’s such an important cause I’m doing it again. And I have the choice to stay for just one night. Others aren’t so fortunate.”
In a final note, Martin urged his followers to contribute, saying, “So sponsor me for as much as you can. Every penny makes a difference. And thank you in advance for your kindness, your generosity, and your commitment to making the world a better place through compassion.”
Martin’s dedication to raising awareness has inspired many, as he continues to draw attention to the critical issue of homelessness through his brave and selfless efforts.
