Broadcaster Stephen’s SpaceX Dream Request Steals Spotlight Amid Trump Election News

On Thursday, November 7, broadcaster Stephen joined co-host Ellie Costello at the TV studios to cover major news stories, from anticipated GP appointment reforms to the Bank of England’s potential interest rate cut. However, the biggest story was undoubtedly Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 US presidential election, where he defeated his Democratic opponent with a decisive 295 to 226 electoral votes.

One of Trump’s most vocal supporters during his campaign was Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), who backed him with a significant $118 million (£91.3 million) donation. In the wake of Trump’s win, Stephen and Ellie hosted Musk’s father, Errol, live from Cape Town, South Africa. During the interview, Errol expressed pride in his son’s achievements and support for Trump, hinting at potential future political involvement for Musk, reported by the Express.

In a light-hearted moment towards the end of the segment, Stephen couldn’t resist asking about Musk’s SpaceX Dragon Capsule. “The only thing I will say to you, Errol, is that if he [Elon] ever has a spare seat going on the Dragon Capsule and he needs someone to fill it, put my name down for that,” Stephen joked. Errol laughed, replying, “Okay, well we’ll send you. We’ll send you on the top of the next one.” The studio erupted in laughter as Stephen chuckled, “I’d rather be on the inside, but I’ll take it.” Errol quipped back, “You’ll have a good time for a few seconds, you know?”

The cheerful exchange provided a light moment amid political tensions, especially following GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes’s critical comments regarding Kamala Harris’s response to the election. Holmes voiced his frustration with Harris’s silence after Trump’s victory speech, questioning, “Why hasn’t she said anything? Why would she not do the gracious thing and say a few words?” Holmes’s remarks reflected ongoing discussions surrounding Harris’s decision not to immediately concede, sparking mixed reactions from viewers.

Despite some votes still pending at the time of Holmes’s comments, Trump’s victory was already widely celebrated, with figures like Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, Labour leader Keir Starmer, and Foreign Secretary David Lammy offering congratulations. Some speculated that Harris’s delay in conceding might indicate a last-minute challenge, though the result looked increasingly final.

As Stephen wrapped up his interview with Errol Musk, his playful interest in a SpaceX seat brought a refreshing dose of humor to the broadcast, offsetting the election drama and entertaining audiences with a wishful dream of space travel.
