Prince William Faces Backlash for Skipping Lionesses’ World Cup Final Match

Prince William’s decision not to attend the Women’s World Cup final between the Lionesses and Spain has garnered significant criticism, leading to a wave of public disappointment and accusations of sexism. The absence of the Football Association (FA) president during such a crucial match, especially when many believe he would have attended had the men’s team been playing, has sparked controversy.

The Prince tried to assuage the situation a day before the match, sharing a video featuring his enthusiastic daughter, Princess Charlotte. In the message, he conveyed his good wishes and regret for not being able to be present at the match. “We’re immensely proud of your accomplishments and the inspiration you’ve been for millions globally,” he stated.

Richard Palmer, a royal correspondent for Fox News, while discussing the issue on the Royal Round Up, suggested that the royal household is conscious of the unfavorable reactions their decision has elicited. He conveyed, “There’s a palpable sense of remorse I’ve perceived.”

During his conversation with host Pandora Forsyth, Palmer remarked that Prince William’s initial phase as the Prince of Wales was commendable, but this recent decision might be perceived as an oversight. He noted, “Given the considerable significance of this event for women, it’s rather surprising that there’s a narrative, especially among staunch monarchists outside the UK, hinting at media exaggeration.”

The Prince, along with his family, watched the eagerly awaited match from their Anmer Hall residence in Norfolk. It’s also worth noting that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak missed the match, attributing his absence to pressing government commitments.
