University Student Nicole Swaps Aldi for M&S: ‘It’s Worth the Extra £5’

Nicole, a university student from the UK, has sparked conversation on social media after revealing her decision to switch her weekly food shop from Aldi to the more premium Marks & Spencer. In her post, Nicole shared: “Doing my weekly food shop in M&S might sound really bizarre to you, but if I’m being honest, I’ve been spending £35 to £40 in Aldi, and I was like, I might as well shift this money to M&S since the food quality is apparently better.” What started as a curiosity about the quality of produce at M&S quickly became a more calculated decision for Nicole, as she weighed the cost versus the benefits, via the Sun.

At first, Nicole admitted she felt guilty about the rising costs of her grocery shop. She emphasized that this made a noticeable difference in her cooking and meal planning, particularly as a busy student juggling classes, assignments, and social life.

“The fresh produce in M&S seemed to be much better quality and last way longer,” Nicole added, expressing her satisfaction with the investment. In her eyes, the slight increase in price was offset by the longer shelf life of the groceries, meaning she was wasting less food and ultimately saving in the long run.
