Brothers Ruin Man’s Life in Brutal Pub Attack Over Girlfriend Dispute

Two brothers, Keane and Caleb Williams, have been sentenced to prison after brutally assaulting a man outside a pub in Tredegar, Wales, following a false accusation that he had “made advances” towards Keane’s girlfriend. The attack left the victim, 41-year-old Gavin McDonald, with severe injuries, including skull fractures, a brain bleed, and a partially collapsed lung, Newport Crown Court heard.

The incident occurred on September 8 of last year, outside the Tredegar Arms pub in James Street. The Williams brothers, from New Tredegar, confronted McDonald based on what Judge Lucy Crowther described as a “completely unfounded complaint” by Keane’s girlfriend. During the confrontation, the brothers attacked McDonald, who later lost his job and home due to the injuries he sustained.

According to the prosecution, McDonald had been sitting outside the pub when he noticed something was off and decided to go back inside. Keane Williams, described as “intoxicated, antagonistic, and aggressive,” accused McDonald of inappropriate behavior towards his girlfriend, which was untrue. The situation quickly escalated, with the brothers following McDonald outside and assaulting him, told Wales Online.

The attack, captured on CCTV, showed Keane and Caleb Williams, along with 18-year-old John Garnett, punching and kicking McDonald after forcing him to the ground. The violence continued even after McDonald managed to stand up, with Caleb delivering a powerful blow that left McDonald unconscious and bleeding heavily.

The assault had a devastating impact on McDonald’s life. He required extensive surgery and continued to suffer from confusion, memory problems, and uncontrollable shaking. In a statement, McDonald described the physical and emotional toll of the attack, saying, “Everything was a struggle, physically, mentally, and financially. I could not walk without help. I lost all strength.

The worst thing was when I didn’t remember my children and didn’t know what year it was.” Judge Crowther condemned the actions of the Williams brothers, stating, “This was a vicious, spiteful attack from the three of you. You were behaving as a pack of violent thugs, and your families should be ashamed of you.” Keane Williams, with 36 prior offenses, was sentenced to three years in prison, while Caleb Williams, who had 11 previous offenses, received 32 months.

Garnett, who had no prior convictions, was spared jail but warned by the judge to distance himself from such influences. The judge emphasized the profound impact the attack had on McDonald and his family, noting that his daughter had to alter her life to care for him during his recovery.
