BBC Breakfast Presenter Snaps at Carol Kirkwood During Live Weather Report, Creating Tense Studio Atmosphere

A usually cheerful BBC Breakfast studio turned frosty after presenter Ben Thompson snapped at weather reporter Carol Kirkwood during a live broadcast. The tension arose following a bleak weather report that left both Ben and his co-host, Sally Nugent, visibly displeased.

The incident occurred as Carol Kirkwood, known for her upbeat demeanor, delivered a forecast filled with cold and rainy predictions. Sally, trying to lighten the mood, asked Carol if she would be “singing” this morning. Carol, however, responded with a warning: “You might not be singing too much about the weather when you hear what I’ve got to say, Sal. The weather for the next few days is… not great.”

Ben, seemingly fed up with the dismal outlook, snapped, “Okay done, that’s it. We don’t need any more.” Sally attempted to ease the tension by joking, “Not great. That’s the technical term for it. Now, Carol, it’s August and it does feel quite autumnal, doesn’t it?”

Carol agreed, describing the upcoming weather as “wet and windy” with the risk of “flooding and disruption” across the country. Despite trying to remain positive, the gloomy forecast clearly affected the mood in the studio, reported Daily Star.

The tension didn’t end there. Later in the show, Carol playfully teased Ben about attending Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, prompting him to exclaim, “No one will see those pictures, ever!” Carol quickly retorted, “That’s what you think, Ben!” Sally added to the banter, saying, “We’ve got them all, haven’t we?” Carol joined in, hinting, “We have, they might be published.”

This light-hearted exchange came after Carol had given a health update the previous week on her ongoing battle with a “100-day” illness. Struggling with a hoarse voice and persistent cough, Carol bravely continued her weather reporting. Sally praised her for pushing through, quipping, “Your voice nearly lasted to the very end there, Carol, well done!” Carol confirmed her condition, joking, “It’s this pesky 100-day cough. It just keeps giving. It won’t go.”

Fans of Carol had previously expressed concern about her health when she first showed signs of a croaky voice back in April. Despite the challenges, Carol has continued to deliver the weather with her trademark professionalism, even when the forecast—and the studio—turns stormy.
