Heartbreaking Hit-and-Run Kills Young Mom Weeks After Welcoming Baby Boy

Marguerita Sheridan, a young mother from Rathkeale, Co. Limerick, has been identified as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run incident that has left her community in shock. Ms. Sheridan, in her 20s, was standing beside a set of gates in Rathkeale town center on Saturday afternoon, December 21, when a silver Ford Transit van struck her. The driver fled the scene without rendering assistance.

Ms. Sheridan, who had recently given birth to her first child just three weeks ago, was rushed to University Hospital Limerick by locals who attempted to help her at the scene. Tragically, she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.

The loss has devastated the Rathkeale community, with heartfelt tributes pouring in for the young mother. Friends described her as a “beautiful, intelligent young lady,” while others shared condolences with her grieving family. One family friend wrote, “RIP, such a lovely girl, gone too soon,” and another extended sympathy to her father, John Sheridan, saying, “May she get the best bed in heaven.”

Local Fine Gael Councillor Adam Teskey expressed the community’s grief, calling it “one of the darkest clouds hanging over the community.” He described the Sheridan family as “extremely well-respected people in Rathkeale,” adding, “There is a profound sad numbness in the area, and our thoughts and prayers are with the young woman’s family.”

Gardai are actively investigating the incident, conducting a forensic examination at the scene and house-to-house inquiries. They have appealed for witnesses or anyone with camera footage, including dashcam recordings, who may have been in the area between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm on Saturday, to come forward, told Irish Mirror.

The vehicle involved, a silver Ford Transit, failed to stop at the scene. Gardai has urged anyone with information to contact Rathkeale Garda Station at 069 63222, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

As the investigation continues, the Rathkeale community remains in mourning for a young life taken far too soon. Councillor Teskey captured the collective sorrow, saying, “This is one of the saddest days for our community, and we extend our full support to the Sheridan family and An Garda Síochána during this difficult time.”

The tragic loss of Marguerita Sheridan serves as a stark reminder of the devastation caused by reckless driving and the importance of justice for those left behind.
