Beautician Attacks Woman with Wine Glass Over Past Relationship Mention, Leaving Permanent Scars

In a distressing incident that unfolded during a night out in June 2022, a mother was left with permanent scars after a beautician, Chelsea Orrock, assaulted her with a wine glass over a mention of a mutual past relationship. The altercation occurred when the victim casually mentioned to Orrock that they had both been involved with the same individual during their school years. This remark led to Orrock, in a fit of rage, hurling her wine glass at the victim, causing it to shatter upon impact with the left side of the victim’s face.

The attack resulted in a severe laceration extending from the victim’s lip to her cheek, necessitating immediate medical attention. Newcastle Crown Court was informed by Prosecutor Ian Cook that the victim’s wound bled profusely and required stitches. Complications arose when the injury became infected, further prolonging the healing process and ultimately leading to permanent scarring.

The victim recounted the profound psychological and physical toll the attack had taken on her, highlighting the loss of self-confidence, the nerve damage, and the constant awareness of being “disfigured.” She described how the scar became the focal point of her interactions, compelling her to avoid eye contact and, in many cases, to refrain from leaving her house altogether, The Sun reported.

During the sentencing, Recorder Jason Pitter KC admonished Orrock for her actions, emphasizing the gravity of using a glass as a weapon in a social setting and the potential for even more catastrophic outcomes. He pointed out the luck involved in the injuries not being more severe, referencing cases with far grimmer consequences such as loss of sight.

Orrock, a mother with no prior convictions or history of violence, was handed an 18-month suspended sentence by the court, coupled with rehabilitation requirements, a mandate for 90 days of alcohol abstinence monitoring, 130 hours of unpaid work, and an obligation to pay £1,000 in compensation to the victim.

In her defense, Sam Faulks highlighted Orrock’s significant remorse for her actions and her acknowledgment of the gravity of her offense. Faulks mentioned Orrock’s entrepreneurial venture into a lash and nail business and attested to her changed behavior concerning alcohol consumption, ensuring she no longer reaches a state of intoxication. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the repercussions of uncontrolled anger and the lasting impact of momentary actions on the lives of all involved.
