Woman Takes DNA Test for Health Clues — Uncovers 23 Siblings and Surprising Truth About Her Dad

Victoria Hill thought she was just doing a bit of digging into her health. She’d been having a few concerns and, curious as to why she had symptoms neither of her parents experienced, she ordered a DNA test online. But what came back shattered everything she thought she knew about her family. The results revealed she had at least 23 half-siblings – and that the man who raised her wasn’t her biological dad.

Victoria, 40, lives in Connecticut in the US with her husband and two children. Growing up, she always had a niggling feeling that she didn’t quite fit in. She even used to joke that maybe she was the postman’s kid. But when the DNA test results arrived, she brushed them off at first – until someone kept emailing her, claiming to be her half-sister. That woman eventually had Victoria’s attention, reported the Mirror.

“She had my attention and she gave me the rest of the information – this doctor, my mother’s fertility doctor, was in fact my biological father,” Victoria explained. It was a massive shock, but something about it felt strangely familiar. “We used to have a joke, between my father and I, that the only thing that was similar was our hands,” she said. When she discovered her mum had gone to Yale Fertility Treatment Clinic, the pieces started to fall into place.

The man in question was Dr. Burton Caldwell, her mother’s fertility specialist. He told Victoria’s mum, Maralee, that he was using sperm from an anonymous medical student — but it turns out he’d used his own. And not just once. At least 23 people have come forward with the same story: they were born because Caldwell used his own sperm without their mother’s knowledge or consent.

Appearing on This Morning via video link, Victoria shared how she and her mum processed it all together. “Not only is it the man who raised me not my biological father, but my mother’s doctor that she went to for over eight years of treatment… she was not aware of this as well. We sat through it together.”

But the story takes an even more surreal twist. When Victoria began sharing what she’d learned with close friends, her old high school boyfriend – now a friend – started wondering about his own past. His mum had also undergone fertility treatment. A DNA test confirmed the unthinkable: they were siblings.

“We made jokes but it felt very surreal,” she said. “Then in a couple of weeks, he sent me the screenshot that you are my sister.” Later, speaking to CNN, she revealed something even more painful: “I’ll just put it out there, I was intimate with my half-brother.”

Victoria is now campaigning for change. Caldwell, who has since died, reportedly showed little remorse when she confronted him. “When I asked him ‘Why?’, he said ‘It was in the business of making babies’.” She said, “I didn’t want to be a product of fertility fraud. My mother didn’t consent to his sperm and I didn’t consent to having a growing number of siblings that will continue to grow.”
