“I’ve done the fewest I’ve ever done before” Prince William opens up about Kate Middleton’s recovery at BAFTAs

At the 2024 BAFTA Awards, Prince William openly discussed Princess Kate’s health for the first time, revealing insights into her recovery process following a ‘planned abdominal surgery.’ The Prince of Wales attended the prestigious film awards ceremony on February 18, where his wife’s notable absence was felt, given her fondness for the event.

During a candid conversation with Elaine Bedel, the chief executive of the Southbank Centre, Prince William expressed regret that Kate could not join him at the BAFTAs, an event she dearly enjoys. This marked a rare public acknowledgment of the Duchess’s health struggles and the impact it has had on their personal lives.

As reported by GB News, William elaborated on the situation, noting that his ability to engage with this year’s nominated films had been significantly limited due to Kate’s ongoing recovery. He shared with Bedel that this year he had watched the fewest nominated films ever, attributing this to the time and attention dedicated to his wife’s recuperation.

“I’ve done the fewest I’ve ever done before, with my wife it’s been a bit…hopefully we’ll catch up. I’ll make my list tonight.”

The Prince also highlighted the collaborative nature of their relationship when it comes to watching films, mentioning, “All the ones I watch, she watches with me. So we go through it carefully.” This shared pastime has been disrupted by Kate’s health issues, but William expressed hope that they would soon catch up on the films they missed, planning to make a list of must-see movies from the night’s nominations.

The BAFTA Awards have been a significant event for the royal couple, especially marked by their glamorous appearance as the newly titled Prince and Princess of Wales at the 2023 ceremony. During that event, Catherine captivated attendees and viewers alike with her elegant white one-shoulder Alexander McQueen gown, complemented by sophisticated long black gloves, showcasing the royal couple’s influence in the realms of fashion and cinema.

Prince William, in turn, presented a dashing figure in a double-breasted velvet blazer, paired with a classic white shirt and bow tie, and formal black trousers, embodying the regal poise expected of the future King of the UK.

This year’s BAFTAs, while missing the physical presence of Princess Kate, nonetheless carried the essence of the royal couple’s shared passion for the arts, underscored by William’s heartfelt comments and the collective anticipation for Kate’s return to public engagements.
