Prince William and Meghan Markle tiff over Princess Diana laid bare, says royal author
0Prince William took deliberate steps to ensure that Meghan Markle did not have access to Princess Diana’s jewelry before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.
According to royal author Robert Jobson in his new book, Catherine: The Princess of Wales, William, who was protective of his late mother’s jewelry, sought the intervention of Queen Elizabeth II. He wanted to make sure that Meghan would not wear any of Princess Diana’s pieces, despite his own wife, Catherine, being allowed to do so.
“By the time William was confirmed as best man, the relationship had worsened,” Jobson writes. “I have been told that still concerned about the match, he’d sought assurances from the Queen that Harry’s bride would not be wearing any of Princess Diana’s jewelry, even though his own wife was allowed to wear it.”
Despite the underlying tensions, the wedding at Windsor in May 2018 was a grand affair. Jobson adds, “Despite sharp digs and thin skins on both sides, the wedding at Windsor in May 2018 was a spectacular success. In public, the Royal Family were all smiles, though privately they were at daggers drawn.”
Meghan and Prince Harry tied the knot at St George’s Chapel, surrounded by friends and family. However, the preparations for the wedding revealed the strained dynamics within the Royal Family. William’s protective stance over Diana’s jewelry reflects the complexities of familial relationships and the deep-seated concerns that influenced his actions.
The decision to limit Meghan’s access to Diana’s jewelry is indicative of the broader issues and tensions that have persisted within the Royal Family. Despite the public display of unity and celebration during the wedding, behind-the-scenes conflicts highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the family.
As Meghan and Harry continue to forge their own path, the legacy of these internal family dynamics remains a poignant aspect of their journey. The measures taken by Prince William underscore the protective instincts he harbors for his mother’s legacy and the intricate balance of personal relationships within the royal context.
